Afternoon Tea
What afternoons were made for…
Invented in the 1800s by the seventh Duchess of Bedford to stop her hunger pangs between lunch and dinner, afternoon tea has become quite the thing to do for a leisurely couple of hours in Edinburgh, and one of the nicest ways to spend time with friends, colleagues or loved ones.
The
Howard Hotel in Edinburgh, and its intimate Atholl restaurant, were made for afternoon tea. Built during the 1800s as a series of immaculate townhouses in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town, the Howard would once have been the scene of many a polite tea party. We've kept this ambience alive, to enable you to enjoy some delicious afternoon sweets and savouries in peaceful, elegant surroundings with your favourite people (but without the stiff collars and corsets).
